Scholarships
The Sociology Department offers two scholarships to sociology majors. Information
about how to apply will be distributed to majors during Fall semester each year.
William Cranston Lawton Scholarship ($500 for one student)
The Lawton Scholarship was established to recognize and encourage an outstanding
student in Sociology. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of the applicant’s
essay and academic record.
Snejana Ianeva Awards ($500 each for two students)
The purpose of the Snejana Ianeva Award for Sociology is to encourage excellent library
research skills among students. The scholarship honors Snejana Ianeva, the sister of one
of our long-time lecturers Dr. Emilia Ianeva. Snejana served at the US Embassy in
Bulgaria for 27 years and was a proactive leader with vision and capacity to inspire and
promote change in the work of libraries in Bulgaria and internationally.
